The Grid
The Grid began it’s days in a small unassuming lounge room in Glendolough, Perth (Western Australia). Here guitarist Tim Jago, bassist Dane Alderson and drummer Ben Vanderwal would congregate regularly, putting the Jazz guitar trio format through the veritable mangler. Like any good mangler will tell you, some items of clothing mangle much better than others. After a long process The Grid worked out which songs were best mangled, and of course how to best mangle them. The resulting music is a mix (or mangle) of jazz sensibility, fusion audacity, quasi-rock poses, minimalist posturing, electro hand claps, country spooning and some good music that you will probably like. Devo, Miles Davis, U2, Coldplay, Satie, Dvorak, Outkast; has all been previously mangled by The Grid.
The Grid has toured Australia and New Zealand annually for the past 5 years (plus a brief stint in Charlottesville, Virginia... random) most notably as stalwart of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. They have 3 albums under their belt and although all 3 members live in 3 different parts of the world, that's never stopped them before.
